About Impro: “Impro is Innovation”

Always years ahead of the industry, Impro has been a leader in natural solutions to livestock production and dairying for over 45 years.  Impro’s innovative approach to farming and animal health has resulted in Impro’s growing leadership roles.

The “Calfloo” theory of limited isolation housing with “hutches” was developed and put into practical use by Robert and James Collins of Impro.  This resulted in a significant reduction in calf mortality and an increase in production when these calves reached maturity.  These benefits, unrecognized for many years, are now widely accepted and recommended by universities and the dairy industry.

The importance of a skin conditioner or humectant to maintain soft and pliable teat ends was introduced by Impro.  Originally rejected by the industry, it is now almost exactly duplicated by all teat dip manufacturers.

Impro led the industry in recognizing the dangers of long-term and indiscriminate use of antibiotics in the livestock industry.  These antibiotics were once hailed as the savior of the dairy industry and finally are maligned as the bane.

Impro pioneered and educated the industry on the benefits and use of bacterial culturing to identify environmental patterns that relate to problems with equipment, stray voltage, sanitation and others that may affect herd management decisions.

“Our mission is to continue this pattern of innovation… in products as well as ideas!”

The Value of Probiotics:

University research has demonstrated the value of using direct fed microbials in livestock rearing.  Scientists know that in the healthy gut there is a predominance of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium, Bacillus subtilis and other naturally occurring microorganisms.  These bacteria play a significant role in digestion as well as the maintenance of good gut health.  While Impro makes no claims regarding the use of these products, their integration as an important aspect of animal husbandry is becoming greater.  The direct fed microbials used in Impro/Mix Feeds are tested under challenging environments for their viability and their stability is enhanced through the use of microencapsulation.  In addition, the culture sources of the bacteria are selected for host specificity.

Culture Reports:

Impro Products offers a free culture service to farmers through your Impro dealer. This service screens for all the major pathogens, but is limited to identification of genus only, and does not include antibiotic sensitivity testing.

Reasons to Culture:

  1. To help identify production limiting bacteria.
  2. To culture the high SCC cows to arrive at a herd profile and identify sources of problems.
  3. To avoid infection of the herd when introducing new cows.
  4. To collect data for cows with clinical mastitis.

About Me

My name is Randy Osley, and I have been an independent Impro dealer for 35 years.  I am a firm believer in the successful results that can be obtained using these products, because I was a dairy farmer for 21 years and saw positive results from using them in my own herd.

I have customers who have also been successful users of Impro products for many years, and continue to do so today.

I am here to help you get started with using Impro products to fix your herd needs.  I welcome you contacting me with your questions.  Please be aware that I am not qualified to diagnose your animal problems.  You should contact your local veterinarian for that.  My information is for treatment guidelines only.

In addition to dairy products, Impro does offer a line of products for human use.  I also have customers using some of these products with successful results.  Ask me about these as well.

I look forward to hearing from you!
